'A tool to enhance effective Teaching & Learning'

Picture
A Weblog, or Blog as they are commonly called, is a specific type of Web page which can be easily accessed and updated in this case by myself, your daughter and her economics class peers using a Web Browser.  It consists of short text articles, audio-visual learning support material, hyperlinks to other useful economic resources and member comments / postings / entries.  Each new entry is accompanied by the date and the author’s name.  Each entry has a comments section where other Weblog members may leave comments for the author.

Weblog AUP: terms and conditions for usage and participation:
  • Students are expected and required to act safely and responsibly in accordance with the Schools Code of Behaviour and Acceptable User Policy.

  • Students agree never to post information more personal than their first name.

  • Students agree never to log in as another student or give their login information to another individual except a parent / guardian or school principal.

  • While students are encouraged to engage in debate and conversation with other students they are expected to conduct themselves in a manner reflective and representative of the school ethos.

  • Students must never bully or insult a fellow student using blog posts or comments. Although all students’ comments will be monitored if any student is the recipient or a comment that makes them feel uncomfortable and is not respectful, they must not respond but rather notify Ms Skelly as soon as possible.

  • The use of any other teachers / member of staffs name in posts or comments is forbidden.

  • Students using the Weblog are expected to treat the blogspaces as classroom spaces.  Speech that is inappropriate for class is not appropriate for the Weblog.

  • The Weblog is not a substitute for the teaching and learning which takes place in the classroom and as such class lessons will not be posted.  Full school attendance is expected in accordance with school policy.

  • Students must allow parent’s access to the Weblog when requested.  In fact parental involvement is encouraged.  However, it is not permissible for parents to post comments.  All communication between the school and staff is in accordance with school policy, notes in journal, pre-arranged appointments etc.

  • Weblogs are to be a form of student expression.  However, they are first and foremost a tool for learning and therefore will be constrained by various requirements and additional rules which may arise from time to time.

  • The schools Code of Behavior will apply to students who do not abide by these terms and conditions and their right to participate in the Weblog will be temporarily or permanently forfeited.
